WORLD FOOD DAY
One Acre Fund: Food Is The Foundation
Working with One Acre Fund helps farmers feed their families, lift up their communities, and improve their health.
Every donation is matched, dollar for dollar, up to A$76,000 — doubling your impact and maximising farmers’ ability to increase their harvests and grow the incomes that keep their families fed long after this season ends.

The Problem
Across Africa, smallholder farmers grow most of the continent's food — yet many still endure what’s known as a "hunger season": the stretch of time between one harvest running out and the next being ready. With their own supply of food running out and most of the available income spent on securing more, farmers often have no money to invest in their children’s education, in the long-term health of their farms, or to prepare for the future.
The Solution
With training, financing, quality seed, and steady support, that changes. The farmers One Acre Fund serves rarely need to skip a meal — because with the right training and tools, they're growing bigger harvests and earning around 35% more income from them. By partnering with One Acre Fund, farm families have enough to eat. With food security as the foundation, farmers can sell what’s left over to earn extra income, afford a more diverse diet, and can put their money into productive investments that’ll last well into the future.
Campaign goal: help us reach 103 villages — representing over 62,000 people — with the training, support, and access to improved seed varieties they need to thrive.
IN HER OWN WORDS
Stories like Jenifa’s reflect a broader shift: farmers who join One Acre Fund’s program report a statistically significant drop in severe hunger, as high as 30% in the highest-need markets like Burundi. With food security assured, farmers have the opportunity and confidence to invest elsewhere.
Why One Acre Fund Works
-
Farmer-Centred
Farmers are providers and entrepreneurs. We honour their dignity, resilience, and agency.
-
Evidence-Driven
Rooted in data and tangible outcomes: bigger harvests, more income, and the ability to put their money into lasting investments.
-
Support, Not Rescue
Donors don't "save" farmers. They amplify the hard work farmers are already doing for their families and communities.
-
Financially Sustainable
Farmers repay 97% of their own loans, covering 79% of the program's cost themselves (3-year average, 2023–2025). A donation closes the remaining gap — just A$29 supports one farm family of five members.
-
Proven Solutions, Trusted Impact
5.9 million-plus families served, A$5.69 in new farmer profits and assets generated per A$1 donated. Effectiveness at scale.

Where Your Gift Goes
Farmers reinvest the extra income they earn in what matters most: school fees, farm and business improvements, healthcare, and more nutritious food. In 2025 alone, that reinvestment was enough to fund the equivalent of 678,000 students attending secondary school for a year.
Matched Giving
-
A$29 Supports a Family of Five
Provides a family of five with the training, support, and access to improved seed varieties they need to thrive.
-
A$283.26 Empowers a Farmer Group
Supports an entire farmer group — 10 farmers and 50 family members altogether — with the training, support, and access to improved seed varieties they need to thrive.
-
A$1,469 Impacts a Whole a Village
Provides the equivalent of an entire village with the training, support, and access to improved seed varieties they need to thrive. (Rwanda-specific — village size varies too widely across One Acre Fund's 10 countries to give an org-wide figure.)
This World Food Day, October 16th, with food as the foundation, farmers are building towards a better tomorrow.
Your gift is matched dollar for dollar — up to A$75,804, while the pool lasts — turning one donation into a stronger harvest, a fuller table, and a family one step further from hunger.
